Postdoc Position

We invite applications for up to two postdoc positions at the University of British Columbia (UBC). The positions are located in the Food and Resource Economics Group (FRE). FRE is an active group of environmental, resource, and agricultural economists within the Faculty of Land and Food Systems and with collaborative relationships with the Vancouver School of Economics, the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability, and the Sauder School of Business. The positions will be supervised by Frederik Noack, and Jonathan Proctor and will involve projects around 1) decentralization of resource management and conservation, and 2) either A) climate change impacts and adaptation or B) the use of satellite imagery in causal inference. The quality of the application will be prioritized over topical fit.

Funding

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is for two years with the possibility of extension. 

Research responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to devote at least 70% of their time to the project associated with this position. The remaining time may be allocated to other research activities in agreement with the research supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Degree in economics, data science, computer science, or related fields.
  • Good data skills, including econometrics and/or geospatial analysis.
  • Proficiency in R or another relevant programming language.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
